Tamor River Rafting

Probably the best combination trip in Nepal-magnificent white water, a beautiful un- spoilt valley, combined with one of the most scenic treks in Nepal.

Rapids are still waiting to be named.

The first commercial run of the Tamur was in 1990 and there have been few descents since (Our first was in 1991). The trip combines one of the best short Himalayan treks with challenging and exhilarating river-three days of trekking along the foothills of the Himalaya, followed by 129 km of exceptional rafting. The superb sandy beaches for camping, few villages and limited agriculture along the river provide the Tamur with the most pristine rafting environment in Nepal.

The trek begins at Basantapur, after an overnight bus ride from Kathmandu. The trail winds up and down through small villages magnificent rhododendron forests and verdant meadows. The mountain views with the great massifs of Makalu and Kangchandzonga dominating the two ends of the panorama are spectacular. After Gupha Pokhari, a stunning high-elevation lake at 10,000 feet, we begin our descent to meet the Tamur at Dobhan.
Although the Tamur is still relatively un traveled, it probably has created more whitewater interest than any other commercial rafting river in Nepal Known to be one of the best whitewater journeys in the world, the first 16 km of the river allows no respite-continuous rapids and churning whitewater embrace all the challenges of the river.
The last few days are extraordinary, as steep canyon, walls envelop the river, gorgeous scenery abound and the movement of powerful rapids provide a thrilling expedition, In the last four hours before the Tamur exits the canyon and cascades into the mighty Sun Kosi, we plough through more than 40 rapids. Giving everyone the thrill of it all. Once through, it is a short distance on relatively placid waters to Chatara. The Kosi Tappu Sanctuary and Chitwan National Park are options to be considered on the way back.
