Helambhu Trekking

Helambu trek is short and easy trek of Nepal and easily access from Kathmandu. Helambu offer many Monastery visit, Rhododendron forest (flower; March/April), superb mountain views, picturesque Sherpa settlements, friendly people and after all unspoiled culture of the area. This trek is more like cultural trek than mountain and glacier expeditions. People here call themselves Sherpas but their relationship with the Sherpa of Solu Khumbu is distant. The dialects spoken are also different. People here follow the Buddhist religion so you will find many old Buddhist monasteries in the villages. Tarkeghyang is another Sherpa town along the way, which bears its own story.
Our trek starts from Kathmandu after driving by bus/car to Sundarijal, which is just 13km from Kathmandu. We then continue ascend to Chisopani where we spend first night just outside valley. Chisopani offer great view of mountain and landscape. Then we make almost a circle going through Khtumsang, Tharapati, Tarkeghyang, sarmathang and finally to Melamchi pul where we take bus to Kathmandu. Clients carry daypack only and walk at their own pace. Trekking hour is about 5-6 per day.

Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01 Arrive in Kathmandu Airport & Transfer to Hotel
Welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 02 Full day Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley.
We will be visiting three of the famous heritage sites in Kathmandu. You will visit first the Swayambunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). It is said that Swayambunath Stupa is more than 2,000 years old, and it symbolizes knowledge. The painted eyes on all four sides symbolize the all-seeing power of Buddha. It is an important Buddhist place where pilgrims from all over the world come.
It is a 30 minutes drive to Boudhanath Stupa, another important Buddhist pilgrims site. This ancient Stupa is considered one of the biggest in the World. Every morning and evening, many Buddhist devotees come here to pray and circumambulate enabling the visitors to observe local religious practices.
One of the holiest hindu shrines in the world, The fabulous pagoda houses the linga of Lord Shiva and people bathe in the Bagmati River with a faith of cleansing themselves spiritually. Many Sadhus or Hindu Ascetics live here. During religious festivals, Hindus come to make offerings, and it is sometimes very crowded.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square: This former royal palace complex offers the elegant 15th century Palace of 55 win-dows, artistic courtyards, the Golden gat.
Patan Durbar Square : Durbar Square an enchanting melage of palace buildings, courtyards and pagoda temples, is the center of Patan's religious and social life.
Day 03
Kathmandu. to Chisopani(2150m)
Bus ride will take one hour to reach Sundarijal. trail goes uphill through forest to reach to Mul Kharka village. From here enjoy an extraordinary panoramic views of Kathmandu. valley. The trail goes through fir tree forest and rhododendrons
Day 04 Chisopani to Gulbhanjang(2142m)
Trail goes down hill till Pati Bhanjang . after here you have to ascends all the way to Chipling by crossing meadows and fields. There are good mountain views along this stretch of trail. Continuing along the forested ridge, the trail descends to a large Chorten over looking the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjang.
Day 05 Gul Bhanjang to Tharepati(3597m)
The trail climbs the ridge from Gul Bhanjang to another pass at 2580m. it climbs above Kutumsang on a steep, eroded trail, mostly through fir and rhododendron with out permanent settlement . the trail makes some ups and downs passing through forest, across flower-strewn meadows and crossing streams. It finally reaches to Tharepati.
Day 06/07 Tharepati to Melamchigaon(2560m)
Walking down hill in a forest , vegetation changes to scrub bamboo as the route joins a rocky cattle trail towards to stream and traverse to a Chorten and a pasture, the first village since Tharepati. After crossing suspension bridge in Chhyadi Khola climb to reach the prosperous sherpa village of Melamchigaon. It is a large village with extensive fields of barley, corn and potatoes.
Day 08 Melamchigaon to Tarkheghang(2560m)
Trail drops down to cross Melamchi Khola . than climb all the way to opposite ridge of Tarkhegang which is exactly same altitude. This village is slightly larger and more commercial and its inhabitants are famous for selling Thangkas .
Day 09 Takheghang to Kakani( via Shermathang) 2000m
Today, you will visit Shermathang village and descends the ridge with a view to Melamchi bazaar. The path continues from the Gangjwal and goes around the valley and small stream. When a large valley stretches ahead. Pass above the hamlet with a Gompa. The path becomes a gentle ascent and leads to the pass below the crematory painted Chorten trek until to reach Cautara at the end of ridge. You are in Kakani.
Day 10 Kakani to Melamchipul to Kathmandu.
With out climbing the hills, the trail goes through Dubhachaur and Kaphalgiri village ( crowded with thatched roof houses). Go through the pine forest path become like a steep ditch. Cross through the wooden bridge at Melamchi Khola you will reach to Melamchi bazaar. From Melamchi Bazar the bus ride will takes about 4hours to reach Kathmandu
Day 19 Return back to Kathmandu.
